Rospotrebnadzor assessed the risk of the spread of hantavirus in Eurasia
The risk of importation and further spread of hantavirus infection in the countries of the Eurasian region is estimated as minimal. This was reported on May 13 in the Rospotrebnadzor channel in the Maks messenger.
The issues of the epidemiological situation and the implementation of protective measures in the CIS and EAEU countries became the main topics of the 42nd meeting of the Council of Heads of Authorized Bodies in the field of sanitary and epidemiological welfare of the population. The meeting was chaired by the Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Russia, Anna Popova.
During the meeting, experts emphasized that the coordinated approach of the participating countries makes it possible to maintain a stable sanitary and epidemiological situation. Special attention was paid at the meeting to monitoring the situation with hantavirus infection.
According to the agency, Rospotrebnadzor serves as the national coordinator for International Health Regulations. In addition, the agency is cooperating with the World Health Organization (WHO) on this issue.
"Rospotrebnadzor informed about the minimal risks of the import and spread of this disease in the countries of the Eurasian region," the message says.
On the same day, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, epidemiologist, Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Gennady Onishchenko said that the outbreak of hantavirus on the cruise ship MV Hondius does not pose a threat to residents of Russia, since the disease is well studied, and the methods of its treatment and prevention are already known. He also noted the importance of carrying out preventive work with the public, explaining the rules of personal safety and hygiene.
