The exact dates of Sabantuy-2026 in the regions of Russia have been published
Sabantuy is one of the most ancient and popular holidays of the Turkic peoples, dedicated to the completion of spring field work. Every year it gathers thousands of participants and guests in different regions of Russia. In 2026, the celebrations will be held from the end of May to the middle of July. The largest venues will traditionally open in Moscow, Kazan, Ufa, St. Petersburg and other cities. Izvestia publishes the exact dates of the holiday, and also tells which city will become the capital of the federal Sabantuy.
In 2026, which has been declared the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia, Sabantuy, or the Plough Holiday, will be especially widespread. Festive events will be held in Tatarstan, Bashkiria, Chuvashia and other regions with a compact population of Tatars and Bashkirs. The main venues will open in parks, on embankments and specially equipped areas (maidans).
The central event will be the federal Sabantuy, which has been held since 2001 with the support of the World Congress of Tatars and the Government of the Republic of Tatarstan. This is the largest event hosted annually by a new region. Omsk will become its capital in 2026. The celebrations will take place on July 18 in the Green Island Park. The guests will enjoy performances by folklore groups, interactive games, family entertainment and an introduction to the national cuisine.
Since 2010, along with the federal one, the All-Russian Rural Sabantuy has been held. In 2026, it will be held on June 27 in the village of Maly Truev, Kuznetsky district, Penza region. It is expected that ten municipalities of the region where the Tatar population lives will take part in the event. Each of them will present its own version of the "Tatar farmstead", reflecting the traditions and peculiarities of local culture.
The holiday program also includes performances by creative teams representing different peoples of the Penza region, an exhibition of agricultural machinery, equestrian competitions and koresh national wrestling competitions, according to the website of the district administration.
Every year, Sabantuy is celebrated on a large scale in Tatarstan, where the celebration takes place in three stages. This format will continue in 2026. As follows from the decree of the President of the Republic, Rustam Minnikhanov, on June 6 and 7, celebrations will be held in rural settlements and regional centers. Then, on June 13, the city of Naberezhnye Chelny will take over the baton. The festive cycle will end on June 20 in Kazan.
In Bashkortostan, the events will cover 54 municipalities. Residents of villages and towns will celebrate Sabantuy from May 30 to July 18. In Ufa, the capital of the republic, the holiday is traditionally held on June 12 simultaneously with City Day and Russia Day.
The Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve annually becomes the main venue in Moscow. However, the date has not been officially announced at the moment. In 2025, the holiday was celebrated on July 5th.
