Anatoly Aksakov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on the Financial Market, said on May 12 that the ruble exchange rate of no more than 80 rubles per dollar is more profitable for the Russian economy.
According to him, a weaker ruble makes it possible to support domestic producers and creates advantages for Russian exporters. The MP pointed out that the strengthening of the national currency has already led to a reduction in exports and increased pressure from foreign competitors.
Andrey Loboda, a member of the RASO and the expert council of the Forex Dealers Association for the development of the over-the-counter financial market, predicted on May 12 that this week the dollar could remain in the range of 72.50–76.50 rubles, the euro near 84-89 rubles, and the yuan about 10.50–11.20 rubles. At the same time, the ruble continues to strengthen its position against major world currencies, despite continued external volatility and geopolitical risks.
