The priest named the dates of Peter's fast in 2026

In 2026, Petrov's fast will last from June 8 to July 11 inclusive. Philip Ilyashenko, a priest and vice-rector of St. Tikhon's Orthodox University for the Humanities, told Izvestia about this.

The dates of Peter's fast, unlike most multi-day fasts, are not fixed. This is the only fast, the duration of which can vary from 8 to 42 days, depending on the date of Easter.

"The end of the fast always comes on July 12th. The beginning of the countdown depends on the date of Easter celebration. Fasting always begins on Monday, a week after Holy Trinity Day," Ilyashenko said.

In 2026, the Orthodox celebrated Easter on April 12. Trinity, which is celebrated 50 days after the Resurrection of Christ, fell on May 31. Accordingly, the first day of Peter's fast is June 8.

The date of the end of the fast is fixed — it ends on the eve of the memorial day of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, which the Church celebrates on July 12. Thus, the last day of abstinence will be July 11. In 2026, the fasting period will last 34 days.
