In France, more than 1,700 people were trapped on a cruise ship due to the death of one of the passengers from suspected norovirus. This was reported on May 13 by The Guardian newspaper, citing officials.

"The Ambassador Cruise Line ship, carrying 1,233 passengers, most of whom are British or Irish, arrived in Bordeaux on Tuesday (May 12. — Ed.). One 90-year—old passenger died, and about 50 people showed symptoms of the virus," the article says.

According to French officials, the isolation at the port affected not only vacationers, but also all crew members of the moored liner. Thus, the quarantine extended to over 1,700 people.

On May 9, experts from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported over 100 people infected with norovirus on the Caribbean Princess liner. The outbreak of the disease, as it turned out, was recorded on May 7. After the incident, Princess Cruises, which organized the tour, strengthened the procedures for cleaning and disinfecting surfaces on the ship, isolated the sick and collected samples from them.

Anatoly Altstein, virologist, chief researcher at the N.F. Gamalei Scientific Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology (NITSEM), told on April 9 how to get infected with this disease. So, according to him, foci of norovirus occur in food enterprises and in collectives due to violations of sanitary standards - only isolated cases are possible in domestic conditions.
