Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has "significantly reduced" the number of cars in his motorcade in order to save fuel amid the energy supply crisis. This was reported on May 13 by the Reuters news agency, citing sources.

"The number of vehicles in Modi's motorcade has been reduced while maintaining the necessary safety features in accordance with the protocol of the Special Security Team that protects the Prime Minister... Modi also asked if possible to include electric vehicles in the motorcade, but without any new purchases," the article says.

It is emphasized that on the eve of Modi called on people to take austerity measures, including avoiding unnecessary trips abroad, using public transport, reducing purchases of gold and reducing consumption of vegetable oil, as the rapid rise in global energy prices puts pressure on the country's foreign exchange reserves.

Modi said on May 10 that in the face of the approaching economic crisis, the country's residents need to save resources. According to him, it would be effective to repeat the measures that were used during the COVID-19 pandemic: work from home and hold online conferences. He also advised switching to natural farming instead of chemical fertilizers and abandoning diesel irrigation pumps.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on April 15 that India is an important partner for Russia in the field of energy supplies. He clarified that Russian-Indian relations are not limited only to oil supplies, as this is a "multifaceted cooperation" and Moscow hopes that its scope will only expand in the future.
