Ninth graders will be required to take a mandatory oral history exam starting in 2028.

The oral history exam for 9th grade graduates will be mandatory starting in 2028. This was announced on May 13 by the head of Rosobrnadzor, Anzor Muzaev, during a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

"We will have a third compulsory exam <...> This is an important subject," Muzaev said.

According to the head of Rosobrnadzor, before launching the new form of certification, the agency will conduct an approbation and public discussion of the initiative.

In April, Muzaev announced that an oral history exam for 9th grade graduates is scheduled to be held in February. He also stressed that the departments do not plan to make the new exam format excessively difficult in order to avoid rejection from students, noting the importance of developing interest in the subject of "history".
