Heavy smoke appeared in Birobidzhan due to fires
Heavy smoke is observed in Birobidzhan. The reason is the untimely extinguishing of fires.
According to IA EAOmedia with reference to the press service of the Federal Forestry Agency, as of May 12, 50 forest fires are being extinguished on sites of 41.5 thousand hectares. In the Far East, the most difficult situation is in the Eastern Administrative District and in the Khabarovsk Territory. In the EAO, in particular, nine active fires were recorded on an area of 22.7 thousand hectares. One fire was localized on an area of 2.9 thousand hectares.
According to Alexey Venglinsky, deputy head of the Federal Forestry Agency, part of the fires occurred due to the transfer of fire into the forest from existing landscape fires. Extinguishing measures were either not taken at all, or were taken untimely. Inaction led to heavy smoke in major cities.
The ministry demanded to involve all available forces and means to extinguish fires in forests, to take timely measures to extinguish wildfires in order to prevent the fire from spreading into the forest.
80 Federal Reserve specialists are currently working on the territory of the EAO. Additional forces will be deployed if necessary. A total of 173 people and 32 pieces of special equipment are fighting the fire in the region. A special fire protection regime is in effect, and a regional emergency regime has been introduced.
Earlier, on May 13, it was reported that the situation with fires in the Khabarovsk Territory is gradually stabilizing. 14 forest fires were recorded in seven municipalities, four of them have already been localized. The situation is personally controlled by Governor Dmitry Demeshin.
