Russians received more than 2 million rubles for complaints about drunk drivers

Payments for complaints about drunk drivers in Russia have exceeded 2.3 million rubles since 2020. According to Kommersant, the award system operates in 15 regions, and the amount of remuneration increases annually and reaches 20 thousand rubles per message, which was confirmed by the fact of intoxication of the driver, his detention and the drawing up of a protocol by traffic police officers.

This practice was introduced in 2020 in Yamal, after which it began to spread to other regions of the country. For example, in the Vologda Region, the mechanism has been operating since 2023, and now the remuneration there is 15,000 rubles. By the beginning of May, 167 appeals had been received, 93 payments totaling 1.22 million rubles had been made, and most of them were made in 2025 after the payment was increased from 3 thousand rubles.

In Buryatia, complaints about drunk drivers have been paid since October 2025. If in 2025 the amount of remuneration was 5 thousand rubles, then in 2026 it increased to 10 thousand rubles. A total of 685 thousand rubles were paid, and the Ministry of Transport notes that not all applicants come for money.

One of the highest payments (20 thousand rubles) is valid in the Magadan region. Since October, it has been 5,000 rubles, and it was increased in April 2026. The local administration of the State Traffic Inspectorate also noted that some citizens do not come for money because they consider informing about a drunk driver to be their principled civic position.
