- Lavrov pointed to the desire of the United States to "rule the world" through energy control
The United States and Western countries, demanding that Asian states abandon Russian energy resources, are trying to "rule the world" through increased control over the industry. This was announced on May 13 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
"Putting pressure on everyone not to buy Russian oil is a dirty trick. They can be called in different ways: colonial and neocolonial, but these are methods of exploitation, the essence of which is to force everyone not to buy cheap oil from Russia, but expensive oil and liquefied natural gas from the United States. Thus, they seek to rule the world through the control of global energy," he said in an interview with RT India, which was published on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Lavrov noted that not everyone is amenable to this pressure. He cited India as an example, which has repeatedly stated that it will determine the volume of purchases and suppliers of energy resources on its own. Japan also recognizes that the situation in the country will be difficult without Russian oil, the minister noted.
The Russian Foreign Minister also touched upon the situation with the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which has led to an increase in oil prices in the world. According to him, the decision to block was dictated by the desire of the United States to control as many sources and routes of supply of resources to energy markets as possible. This desire, as Lavrov noted, was actively used by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who "has been waiting for decades for Washington to feel the need to defeat Iran."
"One of the principles of globalization, which has been promoted by the West for many years, led by the United States, has been destroyed. The principle concerned the dialogue between energy producers and consumers. <...> Now all this is being destroyed only so that one person can lead these markets," the minister explained
Lavrov stressed that consumers are suffering as a result of this struggle for the energy monopoly. If the war in Iran continues for several more weeks or months, the horizon for overcoming the crisis "will move even further," he concluded.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on April 20 that Russia remains a responsible and important player in the global energy market, despite the extension of US sanctions on the sale of oil from Russia. According to him, the current situation in global markets remains difficult, while the volume of supplies from Russia plays a significant role and cannot be ignored.
On April 15, Lavrov said that if China or other countries lack resources due to the Middle East conflict, Russia is ready to help fill them. According to him, Moscow has repeatedly reminded about this possibility.
