The outbreak of hantavirus on the MV Hondius cruise ship does not pose a threat to residents of Russia, as the disease is well studied, and the methods of its treatment and prevention are already known. This was announced on May 13 by Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, epidemiologist, Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences Gennady Onishchenko.

"[Hantavirus] has nothing to do with our country," he said. Secondly, hantavirus is a completely familiar infection. We know her. <...> Hantavirus itself is easily preventable. We need a timely assessment, adequate deratization measures, that is, the destruction of small rodents, mice, which are natural reservoirs," the expert told TASS.
