Crimean Bogatyr oak claims to be the tree of the Year

The Oak Hero of Taurida, which grows in a Children's Park in Simferopol, will take part in the Russian Tree of the Year competition. This is reported by the press service of the institution "Parks of the Capital".

The Crimean oak has an impressive size: its height is 25 m, the trunk circumference exceeds 6 m, and the crown diameter reaches 30 m. The age of the tree is estimated to be from 500 to 750 years old. The plant has become not only a natural landmark, but also a part of cultural history.

Experts believe that in the 19th century the tree grew in the garden of chemist De Serre, who was familiar with Alexander Pushkin. The poet visited him in Simferopol in 1820. According to one version, it was this oak that could inspire the lines "Lukomorye has a green oak...".
