Rospotrebnadzor declared the unacceptability of the Russian climate for the vector of hantavirus Andes

The only natural vector of hantavirus Andes, the dwarf rice hamster— cannot live in the Russian climate. This was announced on May 12 by the press service of Rospotrebnadzor in the Maks messenger.

"The natural reservoir of the Andes virus is a dwarf rice hamster found in Argentina and Chile," the ministry said.

The unacceptability of the climate for the carrier significantly reduces the risk of the disease on the territory of Russia. At the same time, Rospotrebnadzor, in coordination with the border guard service, took measures to prevent the import of the disease into the Russian Federation.
