- The Russian Federation announced the absence of analogues of the Sarmat rocket in the world
At the moment, there are no comparable analogues of the Russian Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile in the world. Military expert Alexey Zhivov told Izvestia about this on May 12.
According to the expert, the Sarmat is a fundamentally new heavy missile created in Russia and designed to replace the Soviet Voyevoda system. He noted that the development is based entirely on Russian components and does not depend on the former Soviet industrial base outside the country.
Zhivov stressed that the key advantage of the complex is its high payload capacity: with a mass of about 200-220 tons, the missile is capable of carrying up to 10 tons of payload, including warheads and missile defense systems. According to him, this significantly expands the possibilities of using the complex.
"The Americans have a Sentinel heavy-class missile in development, but it is not ready and it is unclear when it will be ready. The Americans have the main missile there, the Minuteman-3. By and large, that's it, there are no more analogues," the expert said.
He also noted that the Sarmat is capable of covering intercontinental distances, providing long-range delivery of warheads, including targets overseas.
On the same day, the commander of the Strategic Missile Forces, Sergei Karakayev, announced the successful test launch of the Sarmat heavy intercontinental ballistic missile. The test results confirmed the correctness of the design and technological solutions, as well as the compliance of the missile system with the specified characteristics.
Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that the Sarmat is the most powerful missile system in the world. According to the head of state, the total capacity of Sarmat is more than four times higher than that of any Western analogues.
