Last weekend did not change the situation at the Russian box office: the top three remained the same. The first place was held by the debut film of brothers Nikita and Fyodor Kravchuk "Kommersant" — a crime drama starring Alexander Petrov earned another 100 million rubles. This is followed by the war drama "Angels of Ladoga" with Tikhon Zhiznevsky (84.7 million rubles per week) and "Seven Versts before Dawn" (64 million). The top five also included the fantasy "Up the Magic Tree" (48 million) and "What a Drama!" starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson (32 million). Izvestia summed up the preliminary results of the domestic box office for the week.

Don't mention prison.

The crime drama Kommersant, starring Alexander Petrov as a bankrupt banker behind bars, is leading the box office. According to the EAIS, over the past weekend, the film directed by the debutant brothers Nikita and Fyodor Kravchuk collected 100 million rubles. This allowed the film to lead the domestic box office for the second week in a row.

Released on April 23, the drama was ranked third on its first weekend. But a week later, the film, based on Andrei Rubanov's autobiographical novel "Plant, and it will Grow," accelerated and topped the top, earning 98 million rubles. So for the third week of rental, Kommersant remains the leader. The total fees for the crime drama amounted to 344 million rubles. The film stars Artur Ivanov, Elizaveta Bazykina, Mikhail Troinik and rapper Husky.

Izvestia asked Olga Zinyakova, president of the KARO cinema chain, to comment on the success of the Alexander Petrov film.

— The box office trajectory of Kommersant is phenomenal. Starting with 70 million rubles in the first weekend, the film only increased its attendance over the next two. And he did it steadily and without falls. Two parameters played a role — extended weekends, a stellar cast and a great sundress, Olga Zinyakova is sure.

The success of Kommersant is also due to the atmosphere of the 1990s era. This is a dramatic story about a man who loses himself for the sake of quick money, and then tries to rediscover who he really is. A young entrepreneur, Andrey, gets involved in a fraudulent scheme, hoping to get rich quickly. But instead of success, ruin, betrayal and prison await him. Imprisonment becomes not only a punishment for the hero, but also a severe ordeal through which he passes into rebirth.

Patriotic gatherings

The May holidays showed an increase in audience interest: the cinema audience increased from 1.1 million to 1.3 million people. At the same time, the average ticket price decreased from 495.6 to 486.9 rubles.

The second place was taken by the historical drama "Angels of Ladoga" by Alexander Kott, which earned 84.7 million rubles. For the second week in a row, the film remains one step away from returning to the top of the box office.

The top three was rounded out by the military drama "Seven Versts before Dawn" with 64 million rubles in fees. The film is based on the novel by Boris Polevoy "The Last Day of Matvey Kuzmin". The main role was played by People's Artist of Russia Fyodor Dobronravov. The film tells about the feat of an 83-year-old peasant, who in the winter of 1942 repeated the act of Ivan Susanin. Kuzmin led a German detachment into the forest, thereby disrupting their operation in the rear of the Soviet troops. The film also starred Maria Shukshina, Viktor Dobronravov, Artem Bystrov, Vladislav Chepurchenko and Natalia Surkova.

Thus, for the second week in a row, films about the exploits of Soviet people during the Great Patriotic War — "Angels of Ladoga" and "Seven Versts before Dawn" - remain among the leaders of Russian distribution.

— Everything is natural: the films coincided with the festive agenda and definitely got into the mood of the audience, — says the president of the KARO cinema chain. — Many people came to the military novelties with their whole family. For parents, this was an opportunity to tell their children about the feat of their ancestors, and the cinema created a suitable context for such a conversation.

Not everyone is at home

Fantasy "Up the Magic Tree" started from the fourth position in the box office. This is a family tale about how parents take their children from London to the countryside and arrange a digital detox for them. Giving up gadgets turns into a real adventure for teenagers: with the help of a magic tree, they enter a world of wonders. The most incredible desires come true there, but you need to get back on time, otherwise you can stay in a fairy tale forever.

The comedy "What a drama!" has been at the top for five weeks now, earning 571 million rubles at the Russian box office. After launching on April 9 from a leading position and collecting 150.5 million rubles in the first weekend, the film starring Robert Pattinson and Zendaya gradually lost its commercial momentum. In the fifth week of rental, the film collected 32 million rubles, but at the same time retained the fifth place in the rating.

Will the films be able to stay in the top after the May holidays? According to Olga Zinyakova, thanks to word of mouth, the holders will retain their leadership for at least another week. However, on May 21, they may be squeezed out by "Not Alone at Home 3. Prom" is a family comedy by Mitri Semenov—Aleynikov, continuing the popular franchise about the schoolgirl Masha, whose role was again played by Milana Khametova. Her father was played by blogger and singer Dava (David Manukyan), the husband of Marie Crymbreri.
