Armenia stressed the absence of plans for the republic's withdrawal from the EAEU
Armenia intends to remain a full member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and has no plans to withdraw from the organization. This was stated on May 12 by Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic Alen Simonyan.
"Armenia is a full member of the EAEU with the rights and obligations that follow from this, and the issue of freezing its participation is not being considered," Sputnik Armenia quoted him as saying.
He also answered a journalist's question about what Armenia would do if the issue of excluding the republic was raised at the upcoming summit of the heads of the EAEU in Astana on May 28-29. Simonyan stressed that all issues in the organization are decided on the basis of consensus, so Yerevan's position cannot be ignored.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on May 9 that relations between Russia and Armenia have been special for centuries. Speaking about Armenia's plans to join the European Union (EU), he noted that this requires special consideration, but Russia does not see "anything special" in this.
