The Russian government has approved monetary awards for the medalists of the Winter Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, as well as for their coaches and national team members. This was announced on May 12 by Mikhail Degtyarev, Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation and President of the Russian Olympic Committee.

"They will pay 5 million rubles for the gold medal, 3 million rubles for the silver medal, and 2 million rubles for the bronze medal," Degtyarev wrote on the Maks messenger.

The corresponding decree was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. The indicated amounts are provided for each award.

Similar payments have been established for coaches who directly trained athletes. A separate fund is provided for the members of the coaching staff, the amount of individual payments in which will depend on the overall result of the national team.

Mikhail Degtyarev noted that the Russian Olympic Committee, together with its partners, has also prepared additional incentives for all participants of the Games, including both prize-winners and other athletes representing the country at the Olympics and Paralympics.

On April 7, Degtyarev announced the transfer of Samsung smartphones to Russian Olympians. He added that all sports federations and coaching staff had to "fight for every athlete," but even in such conditions, the Russians showed decent results.

On March 29, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in his congratulations on the 115th anniversary of the Russian Olympic Committee, noted that Russia is open to hosting the summer and Winter Olympic Games. He recalled that Russia was among the founders of the International Olympic Committee and had been actively participating in the Games since 1900.
