- Grushko called it impossible for the EU to participate in the search for peace in Ukraine because of the help to Kiev
The actions of the European Union (EU) countries exclude their constructive participation in efforts to find a diplomatic solution to the Ukrainian crisis, as they are doing everything to prolong the conflict. This was announced on May 12 by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko.
"Yes, the rhetoric is supposedly aimed at establishing peace, they are calling on us to stop, they are calling for a truce, for peace. But in fact, they are doing everything possible to prolong the conflict as much as possible, and they say bluntly that the longer it lasts, the longer Russia will focus on Ukraine, and the less likely it is that Russia will attack EU and NATO countries," RIA Novosti quoted the diplomat as saying.
He noted that representatives of some EU states hostile to Russia from the leadership of the union made it as difficult as possible to find a settlement, especially the Baltic countries Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
"Poland and Sweden also play a role. And, of course, Great Britain, which is leading everything from behind the scenes, encouraging these states to continue to pursue a hostile line against our country," Grushko added.
The diplomat drew attention to the fact that Russia does not put forward its own conditions for dialogue with the EU on Ukraine, while Brussels already had the opportunity to play the role of peacemaker, but did not do so.
On April 28, British military analyst Alexander Mercuris noted that the EU's plan could only prolong the conflict in Ukraine, which could be beneficial for Russia. The expert stated that the Europeans lack a diplomatic strategy that would allow them to win. As a result, the prolongation of the conflict plays against Europe itself and increases Moscow's tension over the strange policies of the West.
The Wall Street Journal reported on April 25 that financial assistance to Ukraine is becoming a problem for the EU. The allocated loan of €90 billion is not enough, because Kiev's needs have grown since the approval of the allocation of funds.
