Russian cosmonauts Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and Sergey Mikaev will perform a spacewalk on Wednesday, May 27 to carry out work on the outer surface of the International Space Station (ISS). This was reported on May 12 in the Telegram channel of the Roscosmos state Corporation.

"The spacewalk is on May 27th! Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and Sergey Mikaev will have to do extensive work aboard the ISS: install new equipment and return the results of unique experiments," the message says.

The start of extravehicular activity is scheduled for 17:15 Moscow time. Kud-Sverchkov will perform tasks in the Orlan-ISS spacesuit No. 7, and Mikaev — in equipment No. 6. Andrei Fedyaev, who will control the ERA manipulator, will provide support to colleagues on board the station.

One of the central tasks will be the installation of the Sun-Terahertz equipment on the Zvezda module. The astronauts will have to install a radio telescope weighing about 50 kg. The device is designed to observe the Sun, which will help scientists study the nature of solar flares and improve their forecasting methods.

As part of the Ekran-M experiment, the ERA manipulator will move one of the exit participants to the Science module. There, the cosmonaut disassembles a cassette with substrates on which a layer of gallium arsenide semiconductor was formed under ultra-deep vacuum conditions. This material is considered promising for creating a new generation of electronics.

The work program also includes the return of the Biorisk experiment equipment. A third container with bacteria, seeds and crustacean cysts, which has been in outer space for almost five years, will be taken from the Poisk module. The obtained samples will allow researchers to assess the survival of organisms in conditions of harsh radiation and vacuum.

Mikhail Kovalchuk, President of the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center, said on April 10 that Russia was the first in everything related to space, except landing a man on the moon. According to him, there is no list of what the Russian Federation was the first in space. He also mentioned that it was the Russian Federation that sent the world's first woman into space, as well as organized a group flight and made the first docking.
