Sales of new Volkswagen cars in Russia increased 3.7 times
In January-April 2026, 4,428 new Volkswagen passenger cars were registered in Russia. This is 3.7 times more (+268%) than in January-April last year, when 1,205 new cars of this German brand were registered. Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, announced this in his Telegram channel on May 12.
The most popular Volkswagen model in Russia was the Tiguan crossover, which accounted for more than a third of the demand — 1,518 units sold.
Almost every fourth buyer of a Volkswagen car (24.3%) chose the large Teramont crossover (1076 units). The third most popular model was the compact crossover Tharu (968 units). All other models accounted for less than 20% of the total demand.
According to the expert, more than 95% of Volkswagen cars entered the Russian market from China.
Earlier, on May 8, it was reported that in the first four months of 2026, 53.4 thousand new cars of global brands were sold in Russia, excluding Chinese, Belarusian and Russian. This is 2.4 times more than in January –April last year (+136%). The most popular of the brands whose cars are supplied to Russia unofficially is Toyota.
