In Sumy region, Russian paratroopers captured 10 soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine without a fight

In March 2025, the Ussuri paratroopers in the Sumy region captured 10 soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), having encountered virtually no resistance. This was announced on May 12 by a participant in the operation, a fighter of the 83rd Separate Guards airborne assault brigade of the North group of forces with the call sign Ulu.

"We had our first fight, we had a team. We walked at night under an anti-drone blanket, and in the morning we visited the prisoners. Without any fighting, they surrendered on their own, and then they were escorted out, they did not wait for us. We went in: four men were captured in one dugout, and four more in the other. When these people stopped contacting, the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine sent two [soldiers] to check, they were also captured," Ulu told TASS.

He also said that there was an extensive network of Ukrainian military dugouts in the forest belt where the unit worked. According to him, at the time of the paratroopers' approach, the enemy did not expect the appearance of Russian troops and was on vacation in shelters.

On May 2, the head of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), Denis Pushilin, reported that among the captured soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, there is an increase in the number of those who are looking for an opportunity to surrender to Russian forces and take safe routes. He explained that many Ukrainian soldiers find themselves in conditions where they cannot retreat or continue moving due to the threat of fire and minefields.
