Poland has filed a complaint with the EU court against the agreement with MERCOSUR

The Polish government has filed a complaint with the Court of Justice of the European Union (EU) against the trade agreement with the countries of the South American Common Market (MERCOSUR). This was reported on May 11 by the radio station Polskie Radio.

It is clarified that along with the complaint, Warsaw filed an official request to terminate the agreement before the court makes a decision.

It is noted that Poland is primarily dissatisfied with the lack of "mirror requirements" in the text for farmers in the MERCOSUR countries on the quality of production.

The German newspaper Berliner Zeitung reported on January 22 that farmers blocked roads in the eastern part of Berlin in protest against the EU-MERCOSUR trade agreement.

The EU and MERCOSUR, which includes Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, signed a trade agreement on January 17 after more than 25 years of discussions. According to him, the European Union and MERCOSUR are creating a free trade zone with a combined population of 718 million people and a gross domestic product of $22.4 trillion.

The head of the European Council, Antonio Costa, announced on January 9 that the EU countries had approved a controversial trade agreement with MERCOSUR. According to Costa, the agreement will bring "concrete benefits" to consumers and producers in Europe, strengthen farmers' rights and shape the new EU economy.
