Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev celebrates his 65th birthday on May 11. During his leadership, the department has become one of the flagships of the introduction of high technologies, said Izvestia correspondent Valentin Trushin.

The Interior Ministry system is now the most effective government agency and is constantly being improved. Solving crimes in hot pursuit in a matter of hours has become the norm for Russians. The cameras of the Safe City system and facial recognition technologies, which have practically eliminated street crime, make a serious contribution to this. The Ministry of Internal Affairs under Kolokoltsev has become one of the most high-tech ministries, which closely cooperates with Russian science.

"During the work of Vladimir Alexandrovich, the Ministry of Internal Affairs carries out a lot of research work. As a result, crime in the country has decreased," said Alexey Zabelin, Secretary of the Public Council at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Rector of the MFUA.

Even the cases of previous years are being revealed. Experts from the forensic center said that with the help of new algorithms, artificial intelligence compares DNA samples with databases, which made it possible, in particular, to solve a murder 26 years ago.

Kolokoltsev has been in charge of the Interior Ministry since 2012. Anatoly Kucherena, Chairman of the Public Council at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Honored Lawyer of the Russian Federation, linked this period of Kolokoltsev's tenure with openness and the ability to make decisions based on real work, and not on dry figures.

In addition, it was noted that Kolokoltsev's public image was formed even as the head of the Moscow Police Department, when he went to Manezhnaya Square without security and managed to calm the angry crowd.

On April 28, the press service of the Russian Security Council reported that the situation in Russia in the first quarter of 2026 remains stable, despite the challenges associated with a special military operation and sanctions pressure.

According to the agency, the number of robberies on the streets of the state decreased by 23.8%, robberies — by 40%, and thefts — by 25%. In addition, a decrease in the number of serious and especially serious crimes was recorded by 19.8%. Indicators in the field of drug trafficking dropped by 40.1%.
