Slovak Prime Minister Fico recalled the liberation of the country by the Red Army

Freedom and peace came to Slovakia from the east. This was stated on May 10 by Prime Minister of the Republic Robert Fico at a speech in Liptovsky Mikulash on the occasion of the 81st anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

"Freedom and peace came to Slovakia from the east, we should not forget about this," the Teraz news agency betrays his words.

Fico stressed that nothing is working at the moment, including international law. He added that the European Union is weak, and NATO is "falling apart before our eyes."

In addition, the Prime Minister outlined three main principles that should shape Slovakia's identity. He believes that one should not forget about the freedom brought from the east, the sacrifices associated with the opening of the second front, as well as the contribution of Romanian soldiers to the liberation of the republic. Fico emphasized the influence of the United States on the fighting in the Pacific Ocean.

On May 9, during talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Fico said that Slovakia would continue to take care of the cemeteries of soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War on the territory of the republic. In Slovakia, he added, there are dozens of military cemeteries where not only soldiers of the Red Army are buried, but also the Romanian army that participated in the liberation.
