A husky dog named Sierra has been reunited with her owner in the United States 12 years after she disappeared thanks to a microchip. This is reported by People magazine.

"A simple microchip <...> changed everything," the Hernando County Sheriff's Office wrote in a Facebook post (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).

Sierra was found in poor condition in Brooksville, Florida, on April 8. She entered the animal welfare shelter as a homeless person. According to the description of the sheriff's office, the dog was thin, had no spots of fur, and moved slowly—her body reflected the wear and tear of time and hardship. Shelter volunteers treated the dog and scanned for the presence of a microchip.

The chip led them to the phone number of the owner named Bryce, who lives in Texas. The sheriff's office reported that the man had not seen his dog for 12 years. The last time he knew Sierra was in New Mexico, but over time he lost track of where she ended up. At the same time, he never stopped wondering what happened to her, but he also did not think that he would ever hear from her again - especially from a shelter 1,400 miles away in Brooksville, Florida.

When Bryce saw the photos of Sierra sent from the orphanage, his heart broke because of her condition, but at the same time he was overwhelmed with emotions, realizing that he had a chance to see her again. The shelter provided the dog with full assistance: medical treatment, medicinal baths, daily walks, enrichment and endless love from staff and volunteers. As a result, Sierra was taken to her owner in Texas, where a touching reunion took place after 12 years of separation. The sheriff's office emphasized that it was a simple microchip that changed everything and allowed the pet to be returned home.

On March 12, a dog that had been sitting in an abandoned well for three years was rescued in the Chinese city of Yantai in Shandong Province. In 2023, a white dog of the Tang-go breed (Tang dog) fell into a deep well 40-50 m deep. Over the course of three years, attempts were made to save the animal about 40 times, but the operations failed because the well was narrow and difficult to access. In addition, during rescue attempts, the dog hid in far corners.
