Telegram founder Pavel Durov said on May 10 that the French authorities are afraid of impending political changes and are increasing pressure on platforms that support freedom of speech.

"The French government is in a panic. They know that serious political changes will take place in 2027," Durov wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

According to the businessman, Paris is trying to limit the work of independent sites under various pretexts. He also noted that the French authorities are putting pressure on platforms advocating freedom of speech, and at the same time accuse the social network X of "actions that they themselves are engaged in."

On February 3, the French prosecutor's office began conducting searches in the offices of X. It was noted that they were conducted together with employees of the National Cyber Division and Interpol.

The next day, billionaire Elon Musk said that the search of the Paris office of the social network X was a political attack. At the same time, Pavel Durov called France an unfree country.
