WHO told about the removal of passengers from the liner with hantavirus
Passengers who are on board the MV Hondius cruise ship, where a fatal hantavirus outbreak has been recorded, will be transported to their homes via organized 10 flights. This was announced on May 10 by the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
"A lot of departures will be organized. We assume that about six (departures) can be arranged. — Ed.) for the EU (European Union. — Ed.) and also about four for countries outside the EU," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
Ghebreyesus arrived in Tenerife, where a tourist ship docked, in order to monitor the evacuation there. On his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter), he appealed to local residents to show solidarity to the people from the MV Hondius liner.
The head of WHO stressed that all those who have been linked to the outbreak are scared and want to return to their homeland. According to preliminary information, they do not pose a danger to others and are now under constant medical supervision. Ghebreyesus pointed to the quarantine zones well-organized by the Spanish government and the same measures.
The MV Hondius cruise ship, where an outbreak of hantavirus was recorded earlier this month, arrived at the shores of the Spanish island of Tenerife on May 10 to evacuate. It was reported that at least three deaths of passengers from a strain that may be called "Andes" were detected on the ship.
On May 8, representatives of Rospotrebnadzor told Izvestia that this mutation of this disease in Russia is unlikely. According to their information, the situation in the country is under the control of specialists and is stable.
