WWII veteran at the age of 101 laid flowers on the occasion of the anniversary of Victory Day

In Bryansk, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War (WWII), Colonel Boris Shaposhnikov, at the age of 101, took part in laying flowers at the monument dedicated to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War. This was announced on May 9 by the governor of the region, Alexander Bogomaz.

"Colonel Boris Vasilyevich Shaposhnikov, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, an honorary citizen of Bryansk, is our living legend. This year he will be 102 years old, and our illustrious veteran is still in service," says a post on the Maks messenger.

Bogomaz noted that the colonel was drafted to the front at the age of 18, he served at Stalingrad (Volgograd), participated in the liberation of Donbass, Belarus, and the Baltic States as part of the Southern and First Baltic Fronts, and celebrated Victory Day in Konigsberg (Kaliningrad). According to the heads of the region, Shaposhnikov served for 40 years, he was awarded numerous orders and medals.

WWII veteran Semyon Lyulko, in an interview with Izvestia on May 9, told how, at the age of 17, he deceived the military enlistment office to get to the front, and recalled a 100-kilometer trek through mountainous and wooded areas under fire. According to him, after reaching the height, the soldiers fought for two days with the German landing force until it scattered. Then the regiment crossed two tributaries of Lake Balaton and took over the headquarters.
