Svet Turunov, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War (WWII), who liberated Poland and Czechoslovakia, sat next to Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Victory Day Parade on Red Square on May 9.
Turunov was born in 1925 and took part in the liberation of Poland and Czechoslovakia. In 1945, the veteran was seriously wounded in both legs and chest. He celebrated the victory on May 9, 1945, in a hospital in the city of Makeyevka near Donetsk.
After the end of the war, Turunov was a participant in the design of nuclear submarines and the nuclear icebreaker Lenin. Then, from 1976 to 1991, he worked as an assistant to the heads of the USSR Ministry of Defense.
Among the awards he received are the Order of the Patriotic War I degree, the Order of Lenin, the Order of the October Revolution, the Red Star, the Red Banner of Labor and other insignia.
