The Ukrainian national ice hockey team has reached the elite division of the World Championship, where it will compete next year. The team took the second place at the tournament in Group A of the first division, which was held in Sosnowiec, Poland, scoring 10 points.

The first division was won by the national team of Kazakhstan (13 points), which will also play among the strongest. Poland failed to beat Lithuania in the final match (1:2 in overtime) and remained with 8 points, losing the fight for the second place to the Ukrainians. The last time Ukrainian hockey players played in the elite was at the 2007 World Championship in Russia, after which they were eliminated in the first division.
