Zakharova said about the reflection of the essence of Germany after the ban on Victory songs

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on May 9 that Germany had demonstrated its essence by banning the performance of Victory songs.

"And what has changed? Why was it possible to sing Katyusha on May 9th in Berlin 10 years ago, but not now? Has the song changed? No. Have we changed? No. So they've changed? They haven't changed either. They let themselves say what they think. If they used to hide it, now they speak in plain text," the diplomat said in an interview with TASS.

Zakharova called it absurd that Germany announced a ban on the performance of Victory songs as part of Victory Day celebrations, because such songs, according to her, are dedicated to the feat of people and the joy of the victory of good over evil.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that not all residents of Germany and Western countries support such decisions. According to her, many people are ashamed of the actions of the authorities of states with unfriendly regimes.

The diplomat also compared the situation with what is happening in Ukraine, noting that, in her opinion, there is a similar approach to bans.
