Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said on May 8 that the United States had been in touch with the Ukrainian leadership when discussing a truce with Russia from May 9 to 11.
"An agreement on this matter was reached during our telephone contacts with the administration of the President of the United States. Representatives of the United States, in turn, were in touch with Kiev," he told reporters.
On May 4, Russian President Vladimir Putin made a decision to declare a truce with Ukraine, timed to coincide with the celebration of May 9. Some time later, on May 8, Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky actually acknowledged the rejection of this initiative by Moscow.
