A court in the Irkutsk region has sentenced two organizers of illegal car racing, during which an underage spectator died and her friend was injured. This is reported by the regional SU of the Investigative Committee of Russia.

The tragedy occurred on May 11, 2025, on the 9th km of the Angarsk–Tagliany highway. A participant in an illegal ride lost control and ran over pedestrians who were on the side of the road. Next, the Toyota Chaser car flew off the road and crashed into another car.

One of the spectators, a 17-year-old girl, died on the spot. Various injuries, later classified as moderate damage, were sustained by her 22-year-old young man and her 19-year-old friend.

During the court session, the 33-year-old and 35-year-old organizers of the race fully admitted their guilt. They were tried under clauses "a, b" of Part 2 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, "Rendering services that do not meet safety requirements, resulting in the death of a person by negligence."

The court sentenced the women to four years in prison, suspended until their sons turn 14. In favor of the mother of the deceased girl and her injured friend, the court recovered 1.1 million rubles in compensation. A BMW car and a mobile phone of one of the convicts were also confiscated for state revenue.

According to IrkutskMedia news agency, the trial of the Toyota Chaser driver took place earlier. He was sentenced to two and a half years of imprisonment to be served in a penal colony. He is also prohibited from driving during the same period.
