More than 18,500 volunteers have joined the Moscow Helps project. Muscovites provide assistance to participants of the special military operation (SVO), residents of new regions and the border region, the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, said in the Maks messenger.
"Within the framework of the established volunteer associations, Muscovites collect everything they need — from food to books for children," Sobyanin said. Many of the volunteers were awarded the "Moscow Volunteer" badge, the head of the capital emphasized.
For example, Victoria Makkonen gathered a volunteer group, which in four years sewed more than 3.5 thousand pieces of products for fighters. In particular, the volunteers knitted over 1,1 thousand pairs of warm socks, Sobyanin said. Vera Mavryashina organized the volunteer group "Unity", whose members make tactical stretchers, thermal blankets, underwear and bedding, curtain curtains, and prepare freeze-dried dishes.
The I am a Volunteer Charitable Assistance Center, led by Irina Litvinova, has sent more than 350 tons of aid and over 27,000 square meters of camouflage nets, the mayor noted. The center's volunteers produce freeze-dried products for fighters, make first-aid kits, sew anti-thermal ponchos and much more.
Sobyanin recalled that the organization of charitable activities and the involvement of young people in events correspond to the objectives of the national project "Youth and Children" and the federal project "We are together."
Earlier, Sobyanin said that as part of the Easter Gift festival, volunteers collected more than 5,000 gifts for military personnel and children from new regions. The business participating in the festival also donated part of the proceeds to charity.
