Honored Artist of Russia Vyacheslav Nikolaev, an actor of the Russian Academic Youth Theater (RAMT), known to the audience for his role as Ivanov in the popular detective series The Return of Mukhtar, died at the age of 68. Early years and education

Vyacheslav Ivanovich Nikolaev was born on December 31, 1958. From an early age, he showed a craving for music: he graduated from a music school with piano, guitar and accordion classes, and then continued his studies at the Gnessin Music College with a degree in vocals. Musical education subsequently helped him more than once in his acting work, including when participating in musical performances.

In 1989, Nikolaev graduated from the Leningrad State Institute of Theater, Music and Cinematography (LGITMiK). A diploma from a renowned theater university opened the doors to professional theater for him.

Theatrical career

After graduating from the institute in 1989, Nikolaev began working at the Moscow Sphere Theater, where he served for 15 years until 2004. During this time, he played many roles, including Rudolfi and Bombardov in the play "Theatrical Romance" by Bulgakov, Andrei Luchnikov in "The Island of Crimea" by Aksenov, Georges Miloslavsky in Bulgakov's "Bliss", Paul Bretigny in "Mont Oriol" by Maupassant, as well as roles in the plays "The King, the queen, the Jack" by Nabokov and "Eric XIV" by Strindberg.

It was in the "Sphere" that some of the actor's most striking creative successes happened. For the role of Robert Horn in the play "Laughter in the Dark" based on Vladimir Nabokov's novel "Camera Obscura", Nikolaev received the First Prize of the Moscow Theater Festival dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Vladimir Nabokov in the nomination "Best Actor". And for playing the title role in the play "Eric XIV" based on the play by August Strindberg, he was awarded a prize at the Strindberg Festival in Stockholm.

For two years— from 2004 to 2006— Nikolaev served in the Moscow Satire Theater. In 2006, Nikolaev was accepted into the troupe of the Russian Academic Youth Theater (RAMT), where he played for more than ten years. He performed several notable roles on the stage of RAMT. In Tom Stoppard's trilogy "The Coast of Utopia", he appeared in two images at once: in the first part of "Journey" — Nikolai Ketcher, in the second part of "Shipwreck" — also Ketcher, and in the third part of "Beached" — Gottfried Kinkel.

In the play "Lorenzaccio" by Alfred de Musset, he played the Marquis of Cibo. In the production of "The Adventures of Captain Vrungel," Nikolaev was transformed into the banker Krauf. He also participated in the plays "Scarlet Sails", "Chekhov GALA", "Lord of the Flies" and "Nuremberg". In parallel with his work at RAMTA, Nikolaev collaborated with the Nikitsky Gate Theater, where he played in the performances Viva, Perfume! and Invisible.

In 2001, Nikolayev was awarded the honorary title of "Honored Artist of the Russian Federation".

Film career

Nikolayev's filmography includes more than 20 roles in films and television series. However, the real national love and recognition came to him after the role of Andrei Ivanov in the first season of the popular detective series "The Return of Mukhtar."

Among his other notable television works are Sergey Dergachev in the series "Code of Honor 2", Oleg Viktorovich Sergeev in the series "Law and Order: Criminal Intent", Pereverzin in the series "March of the Turkish", as well as Alexander, a colleague of the main character in the popular series "Margosha". He also starred in the TV series Rublevka Live, Airport, Gorynych and Victoria, Mistress, Kulagin and Partners, Autonomous and Lawyer.

Death

Vyacheslav Nikolaev died on May 7, 2026 at the age of 67. His death was announced by the Russian Academic Youth Theater, which was associated with many years of his creative life.
