Shoigu announced his opposition to attempts to distort the historical truth

Russia will continue to support joint projects and research aimed at promoting an objective interpretation of history and countering attempts by falsifiers to distort the historical truth. This was announced on May 8 by the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Sergei Shoigu.

"The common victory in the Great Patriotic War is one of the most important factors uniting our countries. We will continue to support any joint projects and research aimed at promoting an objective interpretation of history and countering the ongoing attempts by falsifiers to distort the historical truth and belittle the contribution of the multinational Soviet people to the Victory over fascism. Preserving historical memory and the truth about the war is our sacred and moral duty," said the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.

According to him, May 9 is a sacred celebration of the Great Victory, reminding everyone of the exorbitant price that our people paid in defending their Homeland and ridding the world of fascism, as well as the inadmissibility of repeating the fatal mistakes of the past.

"We are proud to pay tribute to the endless recognition of the feat of the Soviet people, people of different nationalities who stood shoulder to shoulder, bringing Victory Day closer. Every family in Russia and in all fraternal republics honors its heroes: Red Army soldiers, partisans, home front workers – all those who courageously fought for our future. Both we and our descendants will always remember their bravery and dedication to the Motherland," Shoigu stressed.

He noted that each republic of the USSR made an invaluable contribution to the common Victory, jointly defending freedom and defeating Nazism. Digitized copies of archival documents and photographic materials included in the series of documentary collections "Republics to the Front: 1941-1945" are proof of their heroism and selfless service to their Fatherland.

"Representatives of the expert and scientific community from the CIS countries took part in the creation of this fundamental work. Already today, the books in this series have taken their rightful place in the libraries of the Commonwealth countries. The rights to publish documentary collections in printed and electronic formats have been donated to the authorized departments of all republics. It is important that our citizens, especially young people, know and be proud of the exploits of their compatriots," concluded the Secretary of the Russian Security Council.
