A huge rare ruby weighing 2.2 kg has been found in Myanmar.

A rare ruby weighing 11,000 carats (2.2 kg) has been discovered in Myanmar, and the gemstone was found in the main mining area, the country's information ministry said on May 8.

"The discovered ruby weighs 2,200 g (11,000 carats), it is exceptionally large and rare. The giant stone has a purplish red color with a yellowish tinge and is considered to be of high quality," the agency's website says.
