Sales of non-Chinese foreign cars in Russia increased 2.4 times
In the first four months of 2026, 53.4 thousand new cars of global brands were sold in Russia, excluding Chinese, Belarusian and Russian ones. This is 2.4 times more than in January-April last year (+136%). The market share of these brands was 14%, Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, said in his Telegram channel on May 8.
The most popular of the brands whose cars are unofficially supplied to Russia is Toyota, whose new car sales reached 9703 units in January-April. It accounts for 18.2% of the global brand segment.
Mazda took the second place (7,933 units), BMW (5,376 units), Volkswagen (4,429 units) and Audi (3,410 units) rounded out the top five. Mercedes-Benz, Kia, Skoda, Honda and Hyundai followed. The top 15 also includes Lexus, Nissan, Land Rover, KGM and Mitsubishi. All of them showed positive dynamics of registrations.
According to the expert, Russians most often choose models of Japanese brands among global brands (46%), German (32.4%) and Korean (10.5%) also entered the top three in popularity. Almost two thirds of the global brand cars imported into Russia were made in China (64.5%).
As reported on March 6, by the end of April this year, 117.5 thousand new passenger cars were sold in Russia, which is 15.1% more than in the same month of 2025. The Lada Granta model topped the Russian car market in April 2026, and the Tenet T7 crossover of the domestic brand regained the title of the most popular SUV, ahead of the Haval Jolion.
