On the eve of Victory Day, a Memorial Wall with the names of soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War was opened in Vidnom, Moscow region. She is on the Walk of Fame.
According to the online publication Podmoskovye Segodnya, the creation of the memorial was preceded by a large-scale search operation. It was possible to establish the exact burial sites of 1,400 fallen heroes thanks to the joint activities of members of the NGO Rodina and employees of the Vidnovo City Prosecutor's office.
The main result of the work was the establishment of historical justice for those who had been missing for decades. Thus, the fate of 579 soldiers was clarified, the prosecutor's office considered 30 lawsuits, and as a result, 134 soldiers were officially recognized posthumously. Their services to the Fatherland have been legally confirmed and perpetuated.
Earlier, a study by the VTsIOM Analytical Center showed that two thirds of Russian citizens call Victory Day the most important holiday. The survey was conducted on April 17, 2026, and was attended by 1.6 thousand Russians aged 18 and over. According to the study, Victory Day is the most important holiday for 67% of Russian citizens. According to VTsIOM, the share of Russians who consider May 9 to be the main holiday decreased by nine percentage points compared to 2005. At the same time, 25% of respondents believe that Victory Day should be perceived not as a holiday, but as a day of remembrance and mourning.
