Three people died during the eruption of the Dukono volcano in Indonesia.

Two foreign tourists and one local citizen died after the outbreak of the Dukono volcano eruption on Halmahera Island in eastern Indonesia, and about 20 more people remain trapped on a mountainside. This was reported on May 8 by the local portal Detik, citing a police statement.

"Yes, three died. These are two Singaporean citizens and one local resident who was born in Jayapura," said Erlichson Pasaribu, police chief of the Indonesian island of North Halmahera.

Rescue services are conducting an evacuation operation in the disaster area. Agence France-Presse, citing data from rescuers, clarifies in the Telegram channel that 20 tourists, including nine Singaporean citizens, went missing after the eruption of the Dukon volcano.

It is noted that the Dukono volcano, located in the Indonesian province of North Maluku, began erupting at 07:41 Eastern Indonesian time (02:41 Moscow time). The height of the ash was about 10 thousand meters above the crater. The authorities forbade approaching the crater of the volcano within a radius of 4 km, and also recommended the use of masks for respiratory protection.

The Mayon volcano erupted on the Philippine island of Luzon on May 2. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) noted that increased volcanic activity in Mayon was observed from 17:38 local time (about 12:38 GMT). Lava flows have advanced almost 4 km.
