The HIV situation in Poland has deteriorated sharply against the background of mass migration of Ukrainian citizens. This was announced on May 8 by a representative of one of the infectious diseases clinics.
"The data I have suggests that as of 2020, according to official data, 20,046 people with HIV lived in Poland, and in 2025 there were already 31,738. This is an increase of more than half in five years," the source told RIA Novosti.
According to him, in 2025 alone, about 2.7 thousand HIV cases were detected in the country, and the incidence tripled from 2.43 to 7.37 per 100,000 inhabitants. In 2026, the trend continues: by the end of April, 791 new patients were registered, compared to 734 patients in the same period a year earlier.
The clinic representative noted that before the outbreak of hostilities, about 245,000 people with HIV lived in Ukraine, and the prevalence of infection in the 15-49 age group was about 0.9%, while in Poland it was about 0.1%. According to him, after 2022, the number of new cases in Poland began to grow faster: 2,384 new HIV patients were registered then, 682 of them were Polish citizens, and in 666 cases the origin of the infected was not established.
The publication "Country.On April 29, ua reported that Ukrainians were talking about increased cases of deportation of men from Poland, followed by mobilization into the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). It is noted that people are being expelled from the country without up-to-date documents. So, they came to one man's house and detained him after he was refused a residence permit and the deadline for leaving Poland expired.
