The priest told in which cases it is possible to hold a funeral service for suicides.

There is a widespread superstition among the people that it is allowed to commemorate suicides on Trinity Parents' Saturday, however, as Vladislav Beregovoy, head of the missionary department of the Pesochenskaya diocese, told Izvestia, the Church does not allow such commemoration in the temple either on this day or on any other day of the year.

"For decades now, priests have had to say that it is not necessary to write the names of relatives who died on their own accord in notes on this day," Father Vladislav emphasized.

Nevertheless, according to him, this practice is still found in remote villages.

"It's not that it's a big problem, the Lord himself will figure out who the priests can remember and who they can't. However, there are church canons and church discipline, and anyone who, contrary to warnings, writes [the names of] suicides, will sin quite seriously," Father Vladislav noted.

He advised the relatives of the suicides to contact the diocese, where in some cases it is possible to obtain permission for funeral services.

"The church allows funeral services for suicides who were registered with a psychiatrist. It also allows funeral services for suicidal teenagers who committed suicide as a result of demonic social engineering. When the child was pushed to this by adult inhumans," the priest noted.

In such cases, relatives can sing a funeral service for a loved one and later commemorate him in the temple. In other situations, the "Rite of prayerful consolation of relatives of the deceased is performed" — a special prayer service for the comfort of loved ones, however, such deceased are not commemorated at divine services.

At the same time, a ban on commemoration in notes at the Liturgy does not mean a ban on prayer in general.

"There is a prayer by St. Leo of Optina, which can be read with the blessing of the priest. The main thing is for the loved ones of such people to live a righteous life themselves. So that their righteousness and holiness could also cover those whose afterlife is not going as well as they would like," concluded Father Vladislav.
