The murder of Russian champion Dmitry Isaev in Kaluga. What is known

On May 7, the press service of the Kaluga Region Prosecutor's office reported the murder of Dmitry Isaev, a 35-year-old Russian functional all-around champion. The tragedy occurred at night in the courtyard of an apartment building on Bolotnikov Street in Kaluga. The athlete was shot at least twice, he died in intensive care. The circumstances of the incident

The conflict occurred on the night of May 7, 2026 in the adjacent territory of an apartment building on Bolotnikov Street in Kaluga. According to the prosecutor's office of the Kaluga region, a conflict arose between two residents of the regional center, during which one of the men shot at the 35-year-old victim at least twice on the basis of hostile relations.

According to the press service of the regional prosecutor's office, the victim was hospitalized, doctors tried to save him, but by the morning of May 7, the athlete died in intensive care. The Lair of the Beast Sports Club, where Isaev worked as a coach, confirmed the tragic death of the athlete on its VKontakte page.

Isaev's friend Roman told Izvestia that the athlete had no conflicts and described him as a friendly and positive person.

Footage of the murder

Izvestia published a video recording of the moment of the murder. The footage shows three men standing on a deserted street next to several cars. Shortly before the murder, Isaev was talking to an unknown man, and another man was standing not far from them. Suddenly, he turned to Isaev, pointed a rifle-like firearm at him, and fired at point-blank range.

After the shot Isaev fell to the ground. The shooter raised his weapon, intending to fire another shot, but he was stopped by an accomplice.

The reaction of law enforcement agencies

The investigative bodies of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Kaluga Region have opened a criminal case on the murder under Part 1 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Murder"). The investigation is under the control of representatives of the regional prosecutor's office.

The suspect was arrested in hot pursuit. At the same time, the murder footage published by Izvestia clearly shows at least two participants in the crime: the shooter and his accomplice.

About the athlete

Dmitry Isaev was the Russian functional all-around champion and a candidate for Master of Sports in gymnastics. In the sports club, he was called the "pride of Kaluga."

In recent years, Isaev has lived and worked in Kaluga, worked for many years as a personal trainer, conducted individual and group training sessions. At the time of his death, he was working as a coach at the Kaluga sports club Lair of the Beast.
