The last woman born under the Russian Empire died in Finland.

Finland's oldest resident, Vieno Nurmilaukas, who was considered the last Finnish woman to be born during the period when the country was part of the Russian Empire, has died. She was 108 years old. This was reported on May 7 by the Etelä-Saimaa newspaper.

"Vieno Nurmilaukas was the last Finnish woman born during the Russian Empire, a couple of months before Finland gained independence," the newspaper notes.

The Finnish woman was born on September 23, 1917 in the Grand Duchy of Finland, an autonomous part of the Russian Empire. Information about the death was confirmed by her son Jukka Nurmilaukas.

On November 26, 2024, the oldest man in the world, John Alfred Tinniswood, died in Britain at the age of 113. He received the title in the Guinness Book of Records in April of the same year after the death of its previous holder, Juan Vicente Perez Mora, who died at the age of 114.
