Roskomnadzor denied reports of plans to block EA and Take-Two video games
Roskomnadzor (RCN) stated that there are currently no grounds for blocking Electronic Arts and Take-Two Interactive Software video games, the agency also stressed that they do not plan to restrict access to these projects. This was reported to Izvestia on May 7 by the press service of the department.
Earlier, the newspaper Kommersant reported that since the beginning of 2026, Roskomnadzor has filed at least seven lawsuits against major foreign game development studios due to their refusal to localize the personal data of Russian users. We are talking, in particular, about the companies Electronic Arts, which produces the Sims, Battlefield and FIFA series, as well as Take-Two Interactive Software, known for Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption.
The publication noted that all lawsuits were filed under Part 8 of Article 13.11 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of the legislation of the Russian Federation in the field of personal data"). According to the publication, in case of non-payment of fines, the regulator may begin blocking access to the companies' products. Roskomnadzor clarified that the service had not received any decisions from courts or other authorized bodies to restrict access to the games.
"In connection with the reports that do not correspond to reality, we inform you that there are currently no grounds for blocking the games mentioned in the messages," the ministry told Izvestia.
The RCN also reminded information resources of the responsibility for spreading fake information and urged them to verify information through official sources.
