Russians were warned about the scheme of fraudsters with payments for Victory Day
Pensioners should immediately stop talking if scammers call them with a message about a one-time payment on Victory Day and ask them to name their card details or text message code. This was announced on May 7 by Ekaterina Medyakova, an expert at the Federal Methodological Center for Improving Financial Literacy of the IGSU Presidential Academy.
"They are calling from the Social Fund, informing about a one-time payment for Victory Day. They ask you to name the card number and the code from the SMS — "for crediting". How it really is: the actual payment to veterans is transferred automatically. No one calls or asks for a code. What to do: hang up," she told TASS.
It clarifies that real employees of banks, Social funds and other official structures never ask citizens for SMS codes or access to "Public Services".
According to Medyakova, fraudsters traditionally show increased activity before May 9. They can introduce themselves as "search movement volunteers" and claim to have found the reward of a missing veteran relative. After that, the attackers offer to follow the link that leads to the fake website of Gosuslug.
In addition, scammers can send a file in the messenger with an allegedly personal greeting from a famous person. According to Medyakova, files with the .apk or .gift may turn out to be viruses and gain access to personal data. She advised not to open suspicious attachments, even from friends, as their account could have been hacked.
It is noted that fraudsters may offer to buy a ticket to the Victory Day Parade for a symbolic fee or click on the link to receive a commemorative medal. The expert recalled that tickets are distributed free of charge through official veteran organizations, and medals are awarded personally at events or delivered to the home.
On May 5, the Moshelovka press service reported that scammers had begun sending malicious files disguised as holiday cards by May 9, allegedly on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin or the governors. The experts of the platform recommended not to open attachments with postcards if they came from unknown senders.
