Apple to pay iPhone buyers $250 million in AI Feature Lawsuit
Apple will pay a total of $250 million (about 19 billion rubles) to iPhone buyers as part of the settlement of a lawsuit over the lack of claimed artificial intelligence functions, the BBC reported on May 6.
"Apple promoted AI capabilities that did not exist at that time, do not exist now, and will not exist for another two or more years, if they appear at all. At the same time, the company advertised them as a breakthrough innovation," the lawyers said in the case file.
In a settlement agreement filed in California federal court, Apple pleaded not guilty, but agreed to a deal that settles the claims in a major combined class action lawsuit filed in 2025.
The BBC notes that the company will pay from $25 to $95 (from 1.8 thousand to 7 thousand rubles) to buyers of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 in the United States who purchased smartphones between June 2024 and March 2025, adds "Газета.Ru ".
On March 30, Apple's European division was fined by the British authorities for violating the sanctions regime against Russia. According to the decision of the British Financial Sanctions Enforcement Authority, Apple Distribution International (ADI), registered in Ireland, is required to pay a fine of £390,000 (more than $516,000).
