- The State Duma called attempts to deprive Kaliningrad of weapons a path to the cemetery for the EU
Attempts by the member states of the European Union (EU) to deprive Kaliningrad of missile weapons in order to become superior in the waters of the Baltic Sea will lead them to the cemetery. This was stated on May 6 by Deputy Andrei Kolesnik, member of the Defense Committee of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
"If they try to seize these weapons from us, then Europe will take its place not in the geopolitical region of the Baltic Sea countries, but in a cemetery. They should understand this. Cases of aggression against the Kaliningrad region, I think, may force us to use these weapons indiscriminately. Unfortunately. Although Russia always uses weapons selectively, without hitting civilian targets," he said in a conversation with TASS.
Thus, the agency's interlocutor commented on the corresponding proposal from Bundestag deputy Rolf Mutzenich. He linked such words to an attempt to "bite the Russian Federation" and called them pathetic.
The deputy clarified that a military unit consisting of soldiers from NATO countries is currently being created in the region. According to him, they are based in the Republic of Lithuania, and their command is in Vilnius itself. These coordinates, as Kolesnik added, will be the first on which the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will strike back in case of aggression.
Myutzenich announced his proposal to discuss with Russia the reduction of its missile arsenal in the Kaliningrad region on May 3. This step, which also implies the withdrawal of weapons from the territory of Belarus, in his opinion, will allow Europe to return to supposedly "smart diplomacy."
Artyom Bulatov, Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, in turn, pointed out the next day that the risks associated with intentional damage to the underwater infrastructure of the Russian Federation in the Baltic Sea remained. And on May 6, he also indicated Moscow's readiness to act proactively in the matter of protecting the Kaliningrad region.
