Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said at a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi that the issue of opening the Strait of Hormuz should be resolved as soon as possible. This was announced on May 6 by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

"Araqchi informed the media about the latest developments in the Iranian-American negotiations and Iran's next steps. <...> He stressed that the issue of opening the Strait of Hormuz should be resolved as soon as possible," the ministry said in a statement on its website.

The Iranian minister noted that the political crisis with the United States cannot be resolved by military means alone, so Iran will strive to reach consensus through peaceful negotiations. At the same time, the republic, according to him, will continue to defend its sovereignty and national dignity.

Yesterday, Iran announced the introduction of a new vessel passage system through the Strait of Hormuz. It is noted that after reviewing the rules, all vessels must adjust their activities and obtain a special permit for transit through the strait.

On May 3, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States would help withdraw ships blocked due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump also pointed out that the relocation of ships is intended only to free people, companies and countries that have become victims of circumstances.

In response, the head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Parliament, Ebrahim Azizi, said that the Islamic Republic would regard any US interference in navigation through the Strait of Hormuz as a violation of the ceasefire between the parties.
