The EU Summit in Armenia was staged as a "pure show-off" aimed at provoking Russia. This was stated on May 6 by Gunnar Lindemann, a member of the Berlin House of Representatives, in an interview with Izvestia.

"The summit in Armenia is, of course, pure show—off again. The EU, especially Germany and France, want to once again provoke Russia and trying to tie Armenia to the European Union. This is, of course, a very dangerous path for Armenia itself," he said.

Lindemann added that the presence of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the summit is the biggest provocation against Russia, and it was done absolutely intentionally. According to the German politician, Armenia cannot expect real help from Europe, because the EU needs to finance the conflict in Ukraine, huge funds have already been allocated for this.

Military expert Yuri Knutov said in an interview with Izvestia earlier in the day that the EU is implementing a strategy to expand its influence in Transcaucasia aimed at isolating Russia through a network of loyal proxy states. According to Knutov, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan supports the appearance of a European contingent, but this decision does not meet the interests of the people.

On April 15, Pashinyan stated that relations between Armenia and Russia are at an unprecedented high level. The Armenian Prime Minister stressed that Armenia has never quarreled and does not intend to quarrel with Russia. According to him, all attempts to sow discord between the two countries have failed.
